SAT Writing: Grammar and Essay--Grade 8 and up(Not an ESL class)

The goal of this class is to help students prepare for the
multiple-choice writing and essay portions of the SAT. The class will
focus on the NEW version of the SAT which will begin in the spring of
2016.  For more information about the changes, please visit:
https://www.collegeboard.org/delivering-opportunity/sat/redesign

In the fall semester, the course will focus on English grammar.
Students will cover topics such as advanced grammar mistakes and
problems in order to recognize them on the test and in their own
writing.

In the spring semester, students will work on improving their analysis
and essay writing skills.  The new essay format will require students
to analyze such aspects of the passage as the author’s use of
evidence, reasoning, and stylistic and persuasive elements.

Finally, students will learn weekly vocabulary which will help enrich
their writing as well as aid in the SAT Verbal section. Class content
will be taught through presentations, group activities, practice tests
and worksheets, and games.  Students will be given grades for their
work on the weekly vocabulary quizzes as well as for homework
assignments.
